A box bursting with mum's love

Dad came back from his vacation. As soon as we arrived home, I tore open the box of goodies mum had packed. I told her I didn't need anything coz i still have lots of food waiting to be finished. But mum will always be mum. She worries that I don't have enough to eat at home and insisted to export more food from Aus to me *幸福*

I've always thought my mum doesn't love me. Remember the story about mum buying a BBQ bun for me as lunch but a chicken drumstick for Husky, my dog that died in a car accident a few years ago? T____T Yes, I haven't forgotten! *我幼小的心靈被傷的很深*

I now totally believe that my mum loves me just the same. How do i know?

Coz the big red capsicum she packed inside the box for me said so...

I bit into this capsicum and....
it shows my mum's love!

In our family, we show our love thru actions. After all, actions speak louder than words ^V^

People say, love makes everything good. No wonder this capsicum was sweeter and better than the normal ones i had... Would a bitter gourd taste sweet if mum had packed one for me, I wonder? Good that she didn't coz i don't ever wanna know... Bitter gourd, i don't like :P

Mum really knows me...

Big Birds

Spotted this signboard in Yangshuo.

Come take picture with my birds
Apparently, tourists can take pictures of or with the fishermen's birds here!! How exciting! What's more, you get beautiful scenery of Yangshuoas the backdrop! And all for ONLY RMB5! Is that money for value or what?

I didn't know that people are so open-minded in China these days! Sigh, looks like I'm the country pumpkin....

I was tempted to take picture with their birds but i was a bit shy. Too many people around to stare at me la. I would feel uncomfortable having to pose with birdies when so many eyes would be on us... *camera shy*

The fishermen's birds are indeed different. They are so big and full of dark fur that it makes other birds jealous of their masculine look. And they have very pointy peaks. I think they can spear through anything without much strength.

Big black bird waiting for business

Okie, i didn't pay for this pic :P i saw the signboard only after i took it. By ethics, i should pay. If not, I should delete it. But, i decided to exchange it with something better ~ a post on it to advertise for fishermen, and their birds.

The bird is called 渔鹰. It dives under the water and helps fisherman catch fishes. Because the fisherman ties a string around birdie's neck, it has to spit out the fishes. Kinda pity the dude. Food is so close but yet so far.....

Fisherman looking for the spot

Birds waiting patiently to start working

Caught a fish! But cannot swallow in...
If you are on diet but cannot control your food intake, maybe you can tie a string around your neck to stop you from eating. No need to spend thousands of dollars at slimming centres liao... woo hoo... do let me know the result after u try ya!

Bake at home!

My sister introduced this Korean Drama to me when she was here a few weeks ago. It's called 面包王卓求 (King of Baking, Kim Tak Goo).

30 episodes altogether!!

A bit regret to watch the drama because I COULDN'T STOP!! The dirty dishes are piled up to the ceiling; I'm late to meet people; I grow sideways because I couldn't stop eating junk food; I get panda eyes due to late night sleep; I hold my pee coz I keep telling myself that I will pause and go pee after this scene... etc... Gosh! Watching good drama is making me a BAD person!!!!

There are quite a lot of bread making scenes in the drama. But making bread is not the essence of the story. It's only part of the story. But without the bread making part, it's also impossible for the drama to continue. Ai ai, it's very complicated to explain la... very hard for me to summarise 30 episodes here........

I've always imagined myself baking my own bread at home. Wah, just imagine the aroma of fresh bread in the house! And eating warm bread as soon as it comes out from the oven is gonna be yummy yummy! I'm drooling just by thinking abt it!

I never go for it because bread making requires a lot of time ~~ have to knead knead knead and then wait for it to rise. Then after a few hours, you punch out the air in the dough, knead knead knead again and wait again... Too much waiting! So u see why i prefer to just buy from bakery ~~ just walk in, take a loaf of bread and pay. Easy-peasy, right?

That's why I never make my own bread even though I'm tempted to. But the drama really influenced me! Homemade bread looks so so so so so delicious in the drama so i decided to challenge myself and make my own bread.

Shhh... kneaded dough is sleeping

After dough had a nice long rest (like one day), it's finally time to bake it (happiest and most exciting moment!)

In 10 minutes, here is what i got....

Nicely baked Bread

Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside

It's darn delicious! I can't believe that I actually made it with my own hands, in my own home! My home smelled of fresh bread, just like how it smells in a bakery! Gosh, if only my home can smell like this forever!

My bread went really well with cheese omellete. It still tasted good even if i just had it with a cup of cappucino!

Ooo.. I'm also imagining myself being a Queen of Baking, making my own bread and cake everyday, and watching people enjoying my work of art....

One day. May be one day...

Dec Last Year

It's the last month of the year... and it's Xmas next weekend! *jingle bell jingle bell...*

Too bad that Xmas and New Year fall on Saturdays this year. And since I work 5 days a week, I don't get extra 2 days off from work. Darn! I lost 2 days of publich holidays just like that! Well, the only person who is smiling now is my employer....

I'm not in Xmas mood yet. Must be because many of the shops here are already playing Chinese New Year songs. And CNY is 2 months away! Also, many places are already decorated with red lanterns, cherry blossoms etc... With so many red red happiness, no wonder I forget about Xmas!

Not much to look forward to this year *boring* I could only get myself into Xmas mood by looking at old photos... Long life to digital cameras! haha...

This time last year

What are your plans this year? Please please get me into Xmas mood! It would be even better if you could bring me to some place for white Xmas! *dreaming*

Something from afar

It has been ages since I received ‘hardcopy’ letters from friends. So when I saw a postcard sitting in my mailbox, I was excited!!

And Angkor Wat is on the card! No mistake that it must be sent all the way from Siem Reap. So glad that my friends still remembered me!

What can I say? I have a bunch of thoughtful friends!

Yeah, i guess i did miss out some fun times in Siem Reap like my friends said in the postcard. Too bad that I didn't make it to the trip... Coz I'm sure the trip would've been EVEN MORE fun with my presence! hiak hiak hiak...

Oh well, looks like i'm not the only one losing out hiak hiak hiak....

Thanks guys for the thoughts.. Thanks for sending Angkor Wat to me :)

Lazy or just creative???

There is no secret that I like to eat. Once i start, it's hard to stop. But when it comes to cooking it myself, i stop and think. Not because I don't like to cook. In fact, I LOVE to cook. The process can be long but the end result of sitting down & enjoying my own cooking is satisfying... How I wish all the dirty dishes would just disappear by themselves! *dreaming*

Recently, I 'invented' a quick, easy & delicious dish with v little cleaning up to do. I've experimented a few times and am proud to say, IT WORKS! *clap clap*

It's easy. I just throw all the ingredients and seasonings in a pot, place that pot in my rice cooker and let the ingredients 谈情说爱 (love to blossom) while I continue to attend to other things like watching tv or talking on the phone... In minutes, i get my yummy meal!

Getting to know each other
Jane called my dish a 懒人的料理 (lazy person's meal) but i think 香亲香爱 (Be kind to and love each other) is a more suitable name since all ingredients get to develop their loves for each other in that small pot.

Spaghetti in Chinese Style

It's quick, easy, delicious and fuss-free... Just what I wanted.... :) AND healthy too since all the nutrients go into my stomach!

It's amazing how creative I can be sometimes! ^V^

Delete them!

I've this bad habit of keeping things. Good things. Bad things. Beautiful things. Important things. Unimportant things. Things I think I will need next time. Things I eventually forget I've kept....

I have this bad habit of saving a copy of the same file in all the devices I own ~ in my PC, my laptop, my external hard disk, my pen drive... When I make changes to the file, I don't overwrite the original one. Just in case I need to refer to the old version which I rarely do. In the end I forget where I keep the most updated copy T_T

It's PC fair next weekend. I am thinking of buying another external hard disk to store the increasing files that I've. Looking at my bad habit of keeping multiple copies of the same files, I wonder how many more hard disks i will need! Hmm... Maybe I should not buy more HD since I've yet to develop a proper system to keep track of the files I already have. And more space will only make things more complicated...

Was chatting with my IT friend just now. I told him that I'm thinking of getting a 500GB external hard disk. He laughed at me HARD. For being so outdated! He has two 500GB external hard disks which he is thinking of throwing away coz they are now too old and too 'small' for his consumption. Oh good! He can certainly throw those 2 HDs to me. One person's trash can be someone else's treasure! How true is that!

HA! I wonder how he would react if i told him that I'm still using my 180GB external hard disk....

Time to delete those unwanted files............

Busy busy like a bee

Last weekend was full of actions for me... lots of food, lots of fun and lots of people wanted a piece of me! OOoo... it felt so good to be in high demand hiak hiak hiak....

I wasn't the VIP, although i should be because i was the birthday star! The VIPs were my sister who returned from Paris for a short 2 day stay (she is still on the plane to Paris as I'm typing.. poor thing) and my buddy who came visit me only once in a purple (her fav colour) moon. A good friend of mine also returned from KL for the weekend. We didn't manage to meet up because by the time i had time for her, she was already on the way to airport! *Opppsi*

Then, I also rejected a party invitation for Saturday night... I just hope that i won't be "de-listed" from their party list next time since this is the 2nd time I rejected them. Haizzz... now i know how celebrities live and feel!!

Sis brought back goodies from Paris. I can't afford to visit her in Paris so she brought Paris back. Tada...

Cheese & chocolate from Paris and nougats from Spain

It's nice having siblings around the world. But that also means, we only get to see each other once a year and having everybody together in one place is impossible... When is the last time all of us gathered together ah? When I was in primary school i think....

I feel bluer today compared to other Mondays coz everyone left me yesterday :( I think the fact that Jane's leaving HK permanently today also made me feel a little bit sad too coz that means the next time she comes home, I won't get any of my favourite pineapple buns from HK anymore, even a pancake-like one :((

The dark clouds got blown away fast and rainbows come out after rain. I feel wonderful right now! In fact, i feel colourful (how confusing!?) right now because I made friends with 12 colourful friends last weekend. They really bring big big smile to me!

Cute or not?

Jane or Jenn 傻傻分不清楚

Not long ago, i complained abt the painful process I endured to get my hair permed. 4 months later, I willingly tortured myself again andwent thru same painful process. Mannn... Looking decent really requires a lot of time, effort and money huh? Oh well, what to do? Like the wise one said "No Pain No Gain".

Am very happy with the end result. At least this time, my friends and colleagues noticed the change in my hair without having to get their eyes checked :P

shorter & curlier

One problem though. People keep mistaken me for Jane...
It's good coz that means i could do bad things and not get my own name spoilt! Cool!!

Eat, Sleep, Play in Siem Reap!

I've been wanting to visit Siem Reap since my return from Hanoi in 2008. So when Red Bird offered cheap fares earlier this year, I got my airfare! Yahooo!

The airfare wasn't exactly cheap when i bought it. You see, the website was darn congested as 53253492049 people around the world were fighting to get the bargains. All i got was error messages! Darn wasting my time and energy so I left the crazy war. By the time I finally managed to get it, the cheap cheap fares were already not cheap.......

That explains why i'm never able to grab any free or cheap cheap fares. I'just don't have the patience like others to spend HOURS in front of the computer or laptop trying my lousy luck. Also, I'm a busy person. I don't have that kind of spare time :P Oh wells, at least this SR airfare is the cheapest overseas airfare I've ever bought from Red Bird * content*

Yayee... Am going to see Angkor Wat with my own eyes. Touch it with my hands! Climb it with my feet! Oooo, so looking forward to it! How much? So much that I even started liaising with a tour guide in Siem Reap half a year before the actual trip! Can u feel my enthusiasm? haha...

Today is the day the tour guide will bring us to see sunset in Angkor Wat. I've heard how beautiful sunset and sunrise are at Angkor Wat. While my friends and other tourists are busy climbing around trying to find the best spot to admire the beauty... I just sit at home IMAGINING it with my great mind!

WHY?!

Because I'm not there in Siem Reap! I'm here. Yes! I donated my hard earned, blood & sweat money to Red Bird, AGAIN. WHY? Because I'm feeling generous! haha...

Oh wells... That's life... Nothing is certain even with proper planning. NVM. I can be happy no matter where I'm. And I'm happy to be home as no place beats home! Right?

The Sunset i miss

FINALLY!!!

I'm indeed the Queen of Procrastination. After 2 yrs of delay, I finally did what i was supposed to do loOOOoong ago.

Guess what? I just enrolled myself to do my lOOoooong outstanding exam! I don't have a great feeling about it. I'm willing to WASTE myhard-earned blood & sweat money because I only have 2 choices ~ tore-do all other papers which I'd passed or 'buy' more time. As u cansee, I chose the latter, simply because I don't wanna miss the 2 yrdeadline and repeat all units! I would never ever complete mystudies with my tortoise speed if I'd to restart from scratch! umm.. isthe word 'speed' even appropriate ah? haha~~

I was just being informed that they will need 2-3 weeks to process myexam registration. @&*$!$# SOOoooo long?! Gosh, my deadline for the examis December 2010! That's only 5 weeks away! Hope i could make it in time *cold sweat*

My textbook which i bought 2 yrs ago still looks brand new simplybecause it has not been touched. Maybe not very brand new coz there aredust and spider webs all over it. It has been a decoration on my desk allthis while and sometimes as a coaster, for my cup of tea. Poor book....
I don't have time to study for my exam anymore. What i gotta do now isto learn how to aim properly coz that's one important skill if i want to'shoot the CORRECT bird'.

Wish me luck! My Law lecturer used to say to us that 'luck has v littleto do with it'. Errr... thanks for breaking my illusion, Mr lecturer!

Anyway, I will still keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best! Now,that's the positive attitude i need!

Look and smell bad. How abt the taste?

Guess what this is?

Some weird Chinese wine from China? Hehehe..... Nope. It's homemade fermented bean curds (腐乳) from Taiwan. A friend gave it to me coz she said this is the best fermented beancurds she has ever eaten in her life. 酱厉害?! Is she exaggerating or not? I gotta try, to confirm.........

When she digged out a piece from the bottle for me to eat, wah, I kept refilling my rice bowls! I ate FIVE bowls of rice! FIVE!! I can't believe that I ate that many bowls in one time! True to my friend's words, the beancurd is darn YUMMY! The best I've ever had in my life too! Got wine taste and very creamy! 真的很下饭呐!

这样下去,我不变饭桶也不行了。。。 哈哈~

Strange strange place

I'm feeling particularly blue today. It must be because of the dark, gloomy, rainy weather outside. How i wish I were at home hiding beneath my warm & cozy blanket & dreaming away! *ZZZzz* Another weekend just came and went. Somehow, time flies during weekend! WHY?!

Had dinner with my long lost friend at the weekend. WW and I were in the mood to be adventurous. We wanted to try 'new' food. New as in both of us have never been before. Although we were starving like mad, we still willingly crossed the deep sea and high mountains to get to a place far far away. We heard from someone that it makes different food. Mannnn, this person better be right!!

The place looked quite filled up from the outside. That's a good sign because crowds usually means good food. Ooo, i can't wait to try! But that eagerness soon vanished when we entered the shop.

Why is it dark inside? I guess the owner probably wanted to conserve energy because the brightness came from the lights at the corridor. NVM. It's good for Earth. As long as we can see what we are eating, I don't care...

Then the ladyboss came to our table and sat down with us. WW and I were waiting for her to introduce their famous dishes but instead, she sat back at the chair lazily not saying a word.

Weird. Has she worked too much that all she wanted to do is rest? Or is she being forced to give up her Saturday night to help out in theshop? Coz she sure didn't look like she wanted to do business. Or maybe because WW & I are 'small fish' so she didn't see why she had to spend her energy to entertain us.

WW broke the silence first and did what any first comer would do and asked for some recommendations. The lady, still v relaxed in her chair said "鱼囉,虾囉,肉囉 (fish, prawn. meat)". She stopped there. Har? Is that all? Such general menu ah? So we asked for more. She replied "菜囉, 鱼囉,虾囉,肉囉 (veggie, fish, prawn, meat)" Full stop again. Err.. what's up with her ah? Then we asked her if there is any non-seafood dish? She replied "雞囉,猪囉,牛囉 (chicken, pork, beef)". I was falling asleep as she went thru her menu, if it was even one *Zzzz* It's indeed different, just like the person said but different experience, not different food. Funny....

ooo, guess what? I'm having ginger milk tea tarik right now. A perfect drink on this cold, gloomy weather.

Instead of keeping my hot take-away milk tea in a plastic cup, i got him to put inside my thermo cup. Such good idea coz it's still warm when i reached office. Somemore I saved a few trees by avoiding plastic cup and also avoid cancer! One stone kill 3 birds. So clever of me! hehe...

How do u eat your mooncake?

It's Lantern Day today!

Lanterns bring back a lot of childhood memories. I still remember the times we hung our colourful lanterns around the house. They looked so pretty in the dark! Once, we hung many lanterns of different colours on a long bamboo stick and paraded around the neighbourhood. Everyone looked at us. They must be admiring our colourful creation! haha...

Lantern party at hip's house last yr
Mannn, has it been a yr?? time flies!
Look at my Pooh Bear lantern. Cute eh?

I wanna ask how u guys eat your mooncakes. Tell me. TELL ME! I ask this question every year after one faithful Lantern Day a few yrs ago.

I've never found anything weird abt the way i eat my mooncake because everyone at my home eats it like this. That day when i was biting into my mooncake in the office, my ex-colleague screamed very loudly. I thought she got attacked by a big black hairy spider! Turns out, she was shocked with the way i ate my mooncake. Then everyone else joined in. Errr.. I don't like attention leh :P

It turns out that nobody eats mooncake like i do. BUT that doesn't mean i'm weird, right? It's just that everyone else were raised to eat mooncakes their way. They are just not accustomed to the way i eat mine and because my way doesn't conform to theirs, so they see me as 'weird'. Actually, I'm just different (& unique) lah haha....

I don't cut into tiny little wedges and eat only 1 or 2 pc and then keep the rest in the fridge for future consumption. It's just too troublesome. Also, the leftover might be left forgotten in the fridge and eventually invaded by some green hairy species (mouldy). Me, I take the whole mooncake and bite it like how u eat a bun. I know. I could've cut into little wedges and eat it piece by piece. More ladylike right? But, why bother? I would have to wash that plate and knife!

Enjoy your Lantern day guys....

I like eating mooncake MY WAY

Busy Sunday

Sunday is supposed to be my lazy day. Just lazing the day away in a hammock with a good book to read or a few comedy movies to watch, a jar of cold cold freshly squeezed orange juice to drink and lots and lots of crispy, full-of-fat chips to eat... ahhhh, that's my kind of Sunday!

I decided to make myself worked like a cow on this particular sunday out of the blue. RARE. No, pigs didn't fly but the weather did change from hot sunny morning to dark, windy, wet afternoon... Hmmm.. I wonder why?

I woke up pretty early this Sunday, like 730am in the morn. Awww... i was really looking forward to waking up late! sigh...

Went downstairs for some juice and suddenly, i felt MOTIVATED (BTW, is this how popeye feel after he takes spinach???) and took out that pack of flour from the fridge and started making my breakfast. In 20 mins, i get my hot and crunchy and a bit chewy Focaccia.

My yeastless focaccia with lots of herbs & garlic! yummm...
So fast and easy to make that even a cooking dummy like me can do

I only do simple food. Anything quick and easy is my kind of cooking, simply because, i'm already a complicated person, i don't need more complications in my life :P ahaha... actually, recipes with complicated ingredients and steps confuse me. I give up even before I finish reading haha...

Then I remembered the black glutinous rice i bought a while ago coz i craved for some black rice porridge dessert. It never got cooked because i was too busy (a good excuse for my laziness hehe...)

Yes, u guess it. I made sweet black sticky rice dessert and topped it with some coconut milk. Yummm...

紫米甜品

U know what? As I write this post, I feel quite impressed with myself. When I'm not in the mood, nothing gets done (like my long overdue exam which is going to expire in 2 months time ZZzzzz...) but when I'm motivated, i can get zillions of things done in one go! Sigh, how i wish i feel motivated EVERYDAY. Then i won't have such a long to-do list to follow! Oh well, life is the way I manage it....

It was a 'foodful' morning. When afternoon came, hunger striked. Since there was quite a lot of coconut milk left from the black rice porridge, I made vegetable curry. Ahahaha.. i think by now everyone of u must be amazed at my abilities haha... I am too!!

Vegetable Curry

Brought some curry for my colleagues to try. They cleaned up the whole pot in 5 mins! That's the silent way of telling me that it was good :P

After making focaccia, dessert, curry and the cleaning up, I was really exhausted by the end of my Sunday. Good thing that my motivation comes visit me only once in a blue moon. Or else i would be exhausted everyday and go mad one day :P

Why i drink coffee...

I like to drink coffee but I'm not a coffee drinker. Coffee gives meracing heart & dizziness and sometimes sleepless nights. I still drink coffee despite the effects i get though *不怕死* simply because, coffee tastes gooOoood....

I like my coffee with lots of milk. I knooowww... why not just drink pure milk instead right? But it's differeeeent coz milk by itself sometimes doesn't give me the satisfaction *hard to please* and because i am lousy at taking caffeine but still like to consume caffeine. And after years of experiments (ok, i exaggerate but I did do that), I finally found the perfect combo, that is by increasing the milk:coffee ratio. And I take my white coffee with no sugar *劲叻?* simply because I love the original taste. A bit bitter, a bit sweet, a bit like life....

That day, i was sOOooo sleep deprived @.@ <--- Panda Jenn that I worried I would fall asleep during a very important course. So I bought a big cup of black coffee to fight Sleep Devil. No milk added coz warm milk is like sleeping pill (u do know that right? hehe...). Wah, i was wide awake like an owl for the 8 hours of the course! 0.0 <---- Owl Jenn

Then the other day, i was freezing in a seminar hall. That place was like the freezer at my home. So darn cold!! Even my layers of fat couldn't keep me warm! :( Now i know the pain Rose and Jack went thru when Titanic sank! I think I would not get a sunstroke even if I put on my winter coat, hat, stocking, gloves, boots and scarf... Too bad I didn't have all these with me at that time T__T So I drank a cup of my super white coffee. Oooo, I instantly felt as if i'd put on all my winter stuff! Coffee is sOOOo powerful mannn...!

Just one side effect though - I was wide awake like an owl that night T______T

love this coffee shop. So cozy!
But... who's that crazy dude behind me?

That's my bro. He totally spoils the lovely picture in my head lah!

But he is funny haha...

Where is Sleeping Buddha??

For those of you (which is not many) who played my 'little game', here is the answer to "spot the Sleeping Buddha" . If you haven't played, here is the photo again.....

Where?

Did you see Sleeping Buddha? If not, don't despair. It's my fault as the picture is waaaayyy too small for your eyes. If yes, well done! That means you have v v good eye sight and imagination!

Here, a larger version for those who miss it. Can u see Sleeping Buddha now?

Simply beautiful!
I think I would have no problem falling asleep here as well

If u still can't. Eeerrr, how do i say this nicely ah.... *#&$@ What's wrong with you!? Sorry, I've done my best. You really need to get your eyes checked and mann, where the heck is your imagination???

Sorry if I broke your fragile little heart....... :P

Gone Fishing....

I remember the times when i had to buy films from the shops for my compact camera so I could take pictures. And also making trips to the photo shops to develop photos. So troublesome but that was how it was if u wanted save your sweet memories.

At that time, I took photos ONLY when necessary coz really, who needs so many copies of the same thing? There were also times when i ended up with some totally hopeless pictures :'( Sigh, what a waste of my hard-earned, blood & sweat money.... If only i'd known before I developed them :(

Thank goodness for the invention of digital camera! It's so common these days that almost everyone has one. I myself already have 3. Super outdated ones though. But, I don't care and I don't mind since they still take nice pictures :) *easily satisfied*

These days, I just snap snap snap all I want. Sometimes even when targetless and not necessary coz I can delete them later or just keep them in my hard disk until i decide that they should be deleted. Love that I've total control!!
^^

Went thru some old photos just now. ooo, i didn't even remember some of the events! good lah.. the digital photos help to keep track of things that have happened. Less work for my brain hehe... Digital camera is soOOOo convenient that it makes me wonder how we lived last time! haha...

Let me just show u one of the uses of digital camera...

Taking funny pictures!

Here is a BIG fish Jude and I caught last year...

好可爱的大肚鱼吧 haha.. Jude is keeping him. He is her favourite pet :P

In Heaven 世外桃源

Chinese Painting

In the past, when i heard Chinese poems about the beautiful sceneries poets saw, I praised them for their magical words. When i saw chinese paintings like the one above, i praised the artists for their imagination.

In my mind, such heavenly scenery existed, well, only in heaven... I now finally believed that such heavenly place does exist on earth when i saw it with my own eyes. Am amazed! I don't have to die and go toheaven to see it! It's real! It's the creation of mother nature and it's toucheable! 珍珠都没那么真!

Floating tea houses on the river

Guilin is damn beautiful. U can easily take award winning pictures even if u are hopeless in photography. I took dozens of pictures without much effort and all are postcard, wallpaper, painting materials. Suddenly, i felt like such a professional photographer! haha...

Greeted by mountains in the morning
~ From our hotel room

We took a 4 hour boat ride from Guilin to Yangshuo. It may sound like a tiring way to travel but not at all. I had no time to feel bored as I was mesmorised by the beauty along the river. It's beyond words can describe... u just gotta be there physically to know what i mean...

Boat ride "in between mountains"

Yangshuo - see our resort on the right?

Like living in heaven!

The mountains in Guilin are unlike any i 'normally' see. They stand individually and are everywhere!! In the city, behind the shops, along the river, in the park, next to the washroom.... And sometimes, a family can have one whole mountain in their backyard like they own it! mannn, i would love to have a few as my backyard! Simply beautiful!

Lucky ppl! They have mountains as 'back up'!

Guilin to me is heaven on earth. I especially like a town called Li Pu. It's the place filled with my favourite food - taro! yummmm... now u know why i love that place so much. Not only is it peaceful and beautiful but also because i can get taro in every dishes! ooo, i think i can live here :P

taro with pork

minced pork and taro balls
They are big like tennis balls!

Candied taro 芋头拔丝

Similar to the candied sweet potato in Shanghai/ Chengde

There is even taro rice! YUM!

We went to see a performance directed by the famous chinese director, Zhang Yi Mou 张艺谋. Like most of his movies, I didn't fully understand the plot but the real Guilin mountains and river as its backdrop and stage and the big number of performers and colourful use of lightings really took my breath away! How did they do it??? I must say, they are good!

Just imagine this as the background. Very beautiful right?

Was being told that Guilin used to be under water. From then on, each time i looked at the breathtaking scenery, I imagined how they used to hide under the deep sea where only fishes could enjoy their beauty...

See the reflection on the water!

Guilin kinda reminds me of my trip to Halong Bay, which is known as Little Guilin. I can see the resemblance... Hmm, you know what? Probably after a few thousand or million years, Halong Bay might lose the water and become Halong Park instead... Don't sneer. That's what happened to Guilin. Applying the same theory, it might happen to Halong Bay one day too... or not since Guilin is inland while Halong Bay is not.. okie, a bit irrelevant. Am going too deep :P

Guilin is indeed a beautiful place. It's different from other Chinese cities i've been to... The only complaint i've for this holiday is that - it's too short!!! *greedy jenn demanding for more*

Even inside the cave is beautiful
Can't help feeling a bit sad at the same time though coz by going inside, we are actually 'killing' the cave :( Hope ppl would stop taking pictures with flash lights while in caves... Every little action counts mah......

Okie, before I end this super long post, here is one little game to bring u back to reality ~~ Can u spot the 'sleeping buddha' in this picture, which I took it at the mountain top?

Guess what this is?

Looks like something u have in the kitchen right? Hehe... Nope, it's not an oven mitten.

It's something i bought for Tiger. Don't underestimate this simple glove. It has quite a few functions. I can achieve several things at one time. Incredible leh...?

I can use it to pat Tiger so he feels loved and at the same time give him massage so he loves me even more; also, combing thru his fur with this gives him silky hair so ppl know that Tiger has a super caring owner (me me me)!

Tiger really enjoys his patting, massage and combing... Come, I can let u use it so long as Tiger doesn't get jealous and bite u...
