I AM BACK!

I suddenly remembered....

I have a blog!

As soon as I got home, I turned on my laptop and uhhh... I couldn't remember what the website is >.< I googled for my own blog. How terrible is that?!

Oh my, I didn't post anything in the year 2023?! Was I that busy until I did not have time to update my blog? Or I simply had nothing interesting to share in my life anymore?

I remembered, urging LY to start her own blog. She said she has nothing to write about. I remembered telling her to just make small matters into big matters, then a blog post is born. And look where I have been? LY loyally updates her blogspot like a diary, whereas my blog is dead quiet.

ok ok, my 2024 resolution is, to update my blog as much as possible. I need to revive it. I need to make my brain work hard again (although I think it's overworked as I can see my growing numbers of grey hair. I think my brain is sucking out all the nutrients from my hair 😰)

Let me summarize my 2023 here so I know I did not skip one year haha

We started to travel in September 2022 when borders started to open. We flew mum to Brisbane. I must say, after not being on any long flight for 3 years, 7 hours of flight is a torture. Then we travelled to Singapore, KL, Taiwan, Vietnam, China in 2023, reunited with siblings and nephews and nieces, relatives.  They also came back to spend time with us.

Then to end 2023, I had really bad pain in my lower abdominal when we were on the high-speed train from Teochew to Guangzhou and it lasted for 2 damn days. fortunately, I managed to become better and made it home safely. Luckily, I had my mum's trolley to use, it helped me walk further and was able to continue to buy buy buy and eat eat eat. After all, Guangzhou is food and shopping haven. No matter how sick one is, eating and buying have to continue! haha

Thanks to Jane and My mum for taking good care of me. My mum enjoyed the trip the most. Why? She bought so much that she has TWO full luggage home. Yes, she took my luggage weight too~

Happy 2024!

What it is like in Kids World

My nephew drew this when he was 6.

Yep, he drew France. can see one of the icons of Paris - Arc of Triumph.

The other day, we were chatting via video chat. He said, yiyi, you can choose any paintings you want.

Then he started showing us one by one. When he got to this panting, i said, Nah, yiyi don't want this because Covid 19 situation is really bad in France

Then he said, yiyi, i didn't draw the pandemic

Awwww, it's so cute. Such an innocent remark

Virtual gifts giving

haha, had a 'chat' with my cute little 4 yo nephew just now.

We don't get to see each other everyday but we do have conference calls a few times a week. He is growing fast and talks a lot.

I must say, he is a very warm-hearted little boy. In January, all of us, including my dad who hates to fly, flew to Singapore to spend two weeks with him. My dad, he usually takes forever to decide whether to fly to a place. Many times, we ended up buying super unbelievably high priced airfare just because he didn't want to decide a destination or kept changing his minds on whereabouts we go. So, how did my cute little nephew  manage to convince my dad to decide IMMEDIATELY? yes! Immediately! I helped him buy airfare that night after he talked to my nephew!

My sister video-called my dad one day. He saw his little grandson sitting inside a box so he asked him why is he in the box. My nephew replied, gong gong (grandpa), I wanna row a boat to visit you! My dad was so touched by what he said and he promised him that he would fly to Singapore to spend time with him. Grandpa's promise to grandson.

See, it was only that easy haha.. My dad immediately ordered all of us to meet at Singapore :P

My nephew can really sweet talk. I need to learn from him

Just now, he sent some voice recordings over. Awww.. what a cute voice. He gave us some hearts and in return, we gave him some ice creams, candies, sundaes, cakes.. which my sister usually doesn't allow him to eat,  as a treat. He then sent back 100 meaning he really liked the gifts and rated them 100. haha... Jane gave him gifts and told him to open one by one. He then gave us lollipops, teddy bear, gifts and hamburgers and told us not to finish the lollipops in one go. Can keep them in a box and they will last very long. And we can play with teddy bear and then have hamburger. Awwww.. It's so funny and adorable at the same time.

That's our virtual gifts giving session and best of all, it costs nothing and leaves melting hearts haha...

Goodbye 2019

Today is the last day of 2019.

Time really really flies! I remembered struggling to write the new year correctly when we first entered the year 2019. Just when i finally got used to it, it's over and it's time to learn to write correctly again.

It's year 2020 tomorrow. A year which seems very far from reach when I was younger but now, it's only a few hours away! Kinda scary but grateful at the same time. Feeling scared because time flies by too fast and i feel i have not properly utilised it or achieved anything! >.< Feeling grateful because I managed to survive til 2020! Maybe i could consider that as an achievement? what do u think :P

ok, so it's 2020. I still don't have a spaceship. I also don't have robot maids at home. I still need to climb the staircase using my feet etc etc... although we have not achieved those futuristic lifestyle as shown in the The Jetsons cartoon, i think it's good. At least we still need to do some manual work in order to stay fit. I'm happy that i could still use my feet to walk and my hands to work so i know they are still functioning well haha...

There are certain things in life that just shouldn't and couldn't be replaced with technologies, like spending quality time with loved ones.

Say Sake~

Happy 2020! Wishing everyone good health and happiness!

The hidden message

Some say, the opposite attracts. I think otherwise though. Just think of it this way, if you can't stand a certain things, how would it be possible for u to form a good relationship with people who possess those things? Unless it's unconditional love hahahaha.. like how i love Jane :P

In my view, people form friendship with those who hold the same values as them. Otherwise, u are into topic A and he/she is into topic B, i don't know how long this kind of friendship would last haha

In my world, i don't like to regards problems as problems. I don't like to sit there and whine about how unfair life is because we are the writers of our own destiny. You choose what kind of a person you want to be. You choose how you want to react to situations. There is no easy way but when there is a will, there is a way.  To me, nothing is good or bad. It's us, who put a tag on what we like and don't like or what's good or bad.

I used to get frustrated when certain things turned out differently when I'd already made perfect plans. Then i realised, that's the way things are, change is constant. I either move with change or be left behind. I still do my best to prevent things from happening, but if it still turns out differently, i just gotta accept it and see how else i could improve. And who knows, the unexpected change might turn out to be a good thing!

I have been added to many chat groups - Buddhism class group, medical volunteer group,  charity org group,  real estate motivating group.... The one thing these groups have in common is, they all want to make a difference to the society.

One day, i had nothing to do and viewed the group of people in one of the groups (haha, how meaningful :P). Wow, everyone has very positive quotes as their introduction. I guess the quotes must be what they want to achieve in the future or have achieved or realised.

When i got to the bottom of the list, i laughed so hard XD

If these people ever go through the list like i did, i wonder what they think of me when they see the chicken! haha..

Actually, the chicken is not just a random icon i put. It has a positive energy meaning. U have to read the hidden message!

So i did a little survey by asking a few friends what they think the icon implies.

A friend said, "don't know. You are craving for chicken rice?" (i do like to eat chicken rice but that's not what it means haha)

Another said, is that your year of birth? (oh, why not? haha)

My colleague gave the most hilarious reply
She said, "it's very obvious! I think u support 那只鸡" (@.@)

haha, ok, looks like great minds aren't easy to find hehe...

That chicken, popping out from the egg means 重生 (Rebirth) --> when we are presented with new things which we have no idea how to handle, do not fear or run away. Find ways to overcome them. Once u crossover, you are no longer the person you were yesterday because you have gained one more strength, you are one step better.

That chicken popping out from its egg also means stepping out from your comfort zone. Do not let fears stop you from chasing after your dreams. We only live once. If you never never try, you will never never know your capabilities.

That chicken popping out from the egg also means, growing up/ being strong because if it breaks from the outside, it means you let yourself be beaten by the external forces, however if it breaks from the inside, it means that you have taken actions to overcome your shortcomings

See? i do not even need any words to express my positive thoughts! Awesome right?

My one little chicken icon is FULL of Wisdom!

This is truly a picture is worth ten thousand words! :P

Doggie year is coming

The year of doggie is just around the corner. It's this Friday to be exact *excited*

It has been raining everyday last week, making it difficult to do some CNY chores. But it also makes it cooler to be doing CNY chores. See? There are always two sides of a coin, it depends on which side one chooses to see. How about seeing both sides? :P

Me shopping in the rain :P
Love the old fashion way of displaying tit bits

I am ashamed to say, I haven't done much CNY preparation. Yes, AGAIN!! But I am confident that everything will get done before the doggie visits for i am someone who will only become productive and efficient when deadline is near T___T   If you plan to follow my step, beware, because you should only act like this provided you can take pressure ;P

We have bought drinks and cny tit bits and most of the house are already cleaned. We have even put up CNY deco. Mum, being in charge of CNY design, this year she creatively put some cherry blossoms on her plants. Hahaha i bet the plant which never flowers must be happy that it's finally full of pink flowers!

Even Tiger had his bath, which he didn't like very much. He tried to escape but of coz, he has a smart owner who made sure he had no place to hide ;P

In the year of dog, the appropriate word to put is 旺. Sound exactly like Tiger's barking! :P I sense that it's gonna be a very very prosperous year ahead *fingers crossed*

I have a colleague who is looking hard for ways to make sure she is prosperous all year round. She said she went everywhere looking for coconuts which she wanted to display in her house during CNY.

Coconut? i have never heard anything auspicious about it. She said she wants a coconut that will 'explode". Explode? Wouldn't it be easier just to light firecrackers if she is looking for "huat dao bao"? haha... And i have never heard of coconut that will explode by itself haha...  Her respond made me laugh so hard. She said, if the coconut explodes, it means "yiah dao bik" (Hokkien. I have no proper English phrase for this haha...).

Then she also looks for small golden pumpkins. She said pumpkins means "pump kim" in Hokkien which means pump-in gold. Oh.... hahaha... She also wants to get a big chunk of charcoal wood. I have seen a lot of kopitiams putting this near their cashier counters but i thought it's for getting rid of odour since charcoal is commonly used for this purpose. My colleague kindly explained to me that, apart from 'sucking' away the odour, it can suck in money too @.@. I totally salute her for being able to associate everything with money!

You are welcome to copy her ideas. For me, i just wanna keep it simple as life is already complicated as it is :P

My new addiction

Ever since i had this canned coffee in KL in 2016, i couldn't have enough...

So far the best canned kopi in my opinion

Oh gosh! So I managed to get rid of my unhealthy habit of taking too much teh c but it was replaced by having too much kopi C. Recently, I started to get addicted to this! I drink it at every chance i have. And i crave for it when I know i shouldn't be  ╮(╯_╰)╭

And the absurd thing is, I even manage to influence the people around me to start taking it! My colleague called me just now to ask me the name of the coffee i like. Another friend whatsapp-ed me the picture of the coffee to confirm if it's the one i like haha...

You know what? I think Wonda should really pay me a commission for such wonda-ful advertisement!!

Special Day!!

First of all, let's cheer out loud!
For it's that special time of the year again!

Nope, it's not because there are crazy online sales!
And nope, it's not because a lot of couples get married on this day.
It's simply because it's the birthday of a pair of adorable identical twins who, when standing together, looks exactly like 11 hahaha...

Years ago, Jane and I were playing in a netball competition against our colleagues from Sabah. She was the goal keeper while i was the goal shooter. We effortless (ok, i exaggerated. actually with little effort la hahaha) got ourselves 13 goals against 0. The opponents looked embarrassed so we decided to give them 1 goal. Jane had to pretend she jumped short and couldn't block the shooter from shooting hahaha.. from then onwards, Jane and I became famous in the Land of Borneo and  are known as the Twin Towers.

I feel lucky to have a friend, a soul mate as soon as we were conceived. Am sure Jane feels the same way too because her life would be soOOooo dull without my existence for sure!

Thank you to my family and friends who sent us birthday wishes through all kind of means.

And thank you to those who took precious time out from their busy lives to take me out for meals.

And of course my parents, who took me to nice dinner on 11/11. Too bad I forgot to take a pictures with them T___T

Oh, i just remembered that, i still have birthday cake in the fridge. I better clear it because the moulds get to it.

Thank you once again for celebrating with me! Big hugs & kisses to u all!

forgot to take pic with my parents & brothers T__T

Yy's adventure in Taipei

It was summer holiday in France. My sister decided to send little YY to school in Taipei.

Lucky YY for being able to "study overseas" at such young age! Haha~

My nephew is now 2.5 yo. When we con-call,  he talks but we can't understand. We thought he is still baby talking. Then one day we realised that he was actually speaking FRENCH! >.<

The only French words i could speak are bonjour, c'est super, c'est la vie... yeah, u see the problem haha

My sister and brother-in-law want him to learn more Chinese vocabs so they thought, why not spend one month in Taipei since there are a variety of programs to choose from. So my sister enrolled him into a summer school.

We all flew to Taipei to spend some time with them.  It's definitely nearer and cheaper to fly to Taipei than to Paris haha...  YY has grown really tall! He is still adorable. Kinda miss him now that i am writing this.

YY loves bus. Whenever he sees bus, he would point at one and says BUS. We even purposely took a bus somewhere just to fulfil his dreams. He was excited and very alert the whole time. He watched the moving items without blinking. That's how concentrate he was haha~

And it's amazing how one thing can stuck in one child's mind. No wonder ppl say, kids are like sponges. They see, they learn. Oh and one more, they remember. One morning after breakfast, my sister walked him to school while mum and I walked back to our hotel. They witnessed an accident where a bus hit a motorcyclist. To avoid my nephew from looking at the bloody scene, my sister quickly led him away. At night before he slept, he told my sister about the incident. My sister was shocked that he remembered!

He said:

"Bus. Boom. Pipu pipu"

Mannnn.. i should learn from little YY.
His story is short and straight to the point. 4 words to tell a story to be exact! Save time, save breath!

Now I am ashamed. My posts are usually more than 100 words 🙈🙈

New Hobby

Why Hungry?

I'm so glad that my mum's back!

She has been away for 3 weeks. For 3 weeks, i felt hungry all the time even though i'd just eaten a big plate of food @.@

My friends said, my stomach must have been stretched since my mum always cooks a lot and I always try to finish everything she cooks. So this 'big plate of food' is probably just 1/3 of what i normally eat.

Haha, sounds logical but I think that's not the real reason.
I think and analyse hard. Yes, i take this very seriously because it's really a pain to feel hungry all the time!

And

EUREKA!

I finally found the reason!

I was always hungry not because i didn't eat enough.

It's simply because of the quality of the ingredients used in the cooking!

When eating out, the ingredients are probably just normal or below normal quality. But mum, she always uses the best of the best. She spends time growing organic vegetables and fruits for us, going around looking for people who sells high quality ingredients, buying only the freshest. Yep, she shops almost everyday so she cooks what she gets on the day. With so much love, effort and fresh ingredients, no wonder i stay full until the next meal!

This morning, i woke up to find her new dish which she learned in Australia -> Bacon Angel Hair Pasta with olive oil and spices.

My hearty breakfast by my lovely mum

It looked so interesting in our oriental-look plate! haha... I topped it with the basil grown by me (yes, by ME! haha...). I like how it looks in the plate. It kinda symbolizes how life should be ---- blend in!

I'm seriously sick of eating out after weeks of eating out.
I'm so grateful that I can even save this for lunch later (yes, my mum cooks super duber big portion of food)

WohooO! After 3 weeks, i finally feel FULL!

Simple Happiness

I bought some flowers from the florist 2 days ago.

When I put them all in the vases, they took away my breath straightaway for they are simply beautiful!

Every time i look at them, i feel happy inside!

Then i thought to myself, the flowers would live a much more meaningful life if they can make many happy instead of just my family and myself.

So the next morning, I brought some to the office... in my mum's basket hehe... It was so weird that carrying a basket of flowers actually made me felt as if i was in Paris! I even had matching music playing in my mind hahaha~ So romantic, so happy, so full of hope! :P

A basket of happiness

I gave one rose to the female colleagues in my office. They were all surprised and had such big smiles on their faces.

Some of them even took pictures of the roses and uploaded onto their facebook to share with their friends immediately. Guess what? they received a lot of likes and comments! Cool!

Some even asked their family members to deliver vases to the office so they could display the roses nicely.

It is so beautiful to see roses on all the tables. They really brightened up the office, I must say! And everyone who walked past actually stopped, looked at and talked about the roses! It's like, the roses brought everyone together and most importantly, reminded people to stop and smell the flowers.

can u see the 3rd rose?

I didn't know that such a little gesture could bring so much happy moments to others. It makes me happy that everyone is happy ^V^

My creation!

All of us have different ways of keeping our secrets.

Some write them (but do people still use their hands to write?) in their diaries. Some tell others about their secrets. Some prefer to keep them deep inside their hearts.

I used to write my secrets in my diaries and naively thought that they would be safe from intrusion for I had them "well-locked".

I also tell people my secrets.... but only when I decided that they are no longer secrets :P

I also keep them deep inside my heart but i try to avoid this method because they take up the 'storage' space. It's a pain having tode-clutter it.

So instead of burying them in my heart or jot them down, I now have a new method... that is by burying my secrets in the garden! hehe...

Haha, this is my little secret garden.

I have never liked gardening before although i love flowers and fruit trees. I don't understand why people would want to cover their whole backyard in cement. It just feels 'cold' although it's actually producing a lot of heat during hot days.

I am lousy at planting. I used to have a few cactus in my office but they all became jelly-soft and died after a while. I suspected they died from radiation overdose.

10 years ago, i saw some colourful cactus in the market. I couldn't resist and bought one.  It didn't die! BRAVO! All because i gave it the correct soil and fed it the correct amount of water. It even  flowered! oh man, i didn't even know my cactus can last that long, let alone flowered!! Then i learned that, plants are just like human beings. In order to live long and stay healthy, they need what they need and not what we think they need.

gardening tools must be flowery too hehe

People say, one's hobby changes from time to time. It's true.... I analysed my posts for the past 9 years and found that, one of my hobbies was eating, then it was cooking (or reading and keeping recipes). Then I sort of didn't have any hobby for a while and now it's gardening. I don't know how long this hobby will last but for now, I kinda enjoy the little secret garden i have created with my own hands.

Gotten the tree cutting men to chop fallen trees into chunks
My car actually "sank" a bit because of the weight! hehe

It makes me happy to see the plants being so healthy. It's joyful to see flowers blossoming. It's wonderful to be able to pick up something i've planted to make drinks for my mother and myself.

I love how the plants are expressing their appreciation when you treat them well. No poker face, no taking you for granted. They love you the way you love them. Ahahaha, ok, i'm a bit out of topic but it's amazing that gardening can increase wisdom too! :P

Bau

Bako National Park

Anna Rais...
