A Walk to Remember

Perth is exactly the way I remembered - its summer is still hot and dry; its sky is still blue with little cotton-like clouds; its border-less grassland is golden in colour, just like the colour of the sun in the dry season; wild parrots can still be seen in the parks, chirping noisily like a group of happy schoolgirls; the annoying seagulls still linger near waterside, waiting for people to drop food, people still sunbath under the hot sun despite the burning heat...... yes.. nothing much has changed.. Perth is still a calm and peaceful city. It's just the way I remembered.....

Perth city is beautiful, especially at night, when u watch it from across the river. That night, Jane and I did that. We sat on the riverside, enjoying the night view from the other side of the river. It is is indeed very beautiful. The reflection of the colourful lights in the calm water really relaxed our minds and souls.

This incredible view reminded me of an unforgettable moment I witnessed in Perth many years ago. This has been in my memory for more than 10 years and despite the long period of time, it is still fresh in my mind. My feeling that night, more than 10 years ago was exactly the same as the feeling I had in my last trip - calm and relaxed....

I remember cycling downhill towards swan lake one cool night. It was just like any other night - me on my way home after delivering paper around the neighbourhood. That night, I was captivated by the big round moon right in front of me. What made it even more beautiful is the reflection of the moonlight in the calm lake. The view was breathtaking.
People often said 'the moon in the foreign land is rounder'. It's true... It's is not only rounder but also bigger and brighter.....

G'Day, Perth.....

Back to Kch. Back to work. Back to reality @n@

Economy not good. Prices of goods keep going up. Ang Pows also shrink. Better than none. Should not be greedy.

This year, we spent our CNY in Perth. Didn't feel like going when Jane and I were discussing about it in December last year. However,my feeling changed when we paid for our tickets in January *Look forward to it excitedly* It has been 4 years since I last went to Perth with Jane! This would be FUN.

Did a lot in Perth. Eventhough it was uncomfortably hot there but still, we squeezed in as many activities as we could in our short, 8-day trip.

My CNY trip did not begin well. I went with 2 luggage bags but only 1 made it to Perth ;'( Actually, both arrived in Perth but I lost one whole bag plus some food all thanks to an ant. YES! Never under-estimate a tiny harmless bug!

My mum asked me to bring 2kg of pineapple jam over so we could make my mum's famous pineapple tarts in Perth to give away as CNY presents. Right before we left for Kch airport, I took the jam out from the fridge, wrapped it in layers of newspapers followed by plastic bags and put it together with all the dried food in my new luggage bag. I used a proper bag for food instead of a box coz i figured that this should be the stylish way to travel. AND it is more convenient too, don't you agree? When the custom officer opened my bag for inspection, the moving ant on the white plastic bag caught her attention immediately. Her words pierced my heart - she said she has to DESTROY the content and my bag (ouch!) because of the contamination. WHAT?! Destroy? Contamination? SO SERIOUS?!?! All because of ONE ant?

We pleaded hard with her & showed her our 'sad' looks. Come on, those stuff are meant for CNY.... She relented and let us have a few dried food back. NOTE: only A FEW k but better than none. Should be grateful that I didn't lose all. She said I could have my bag back after disinfection BUT at a fee of AUD30. I said ok. That bag cost me hundreds. Even AUD30 seems reasonable *sigh* Sadly, I still kissed my bag goodbye forever in the end because it would take them 3 to 4 WEEKS to get it sprayed. Yeah, i asked the same question everyone asks - why on earth do they need so long to get it disinfected??? Just give me a can of pesticide, i kill germs for them lah... So heartbroken that i lost my bag. I only used it twice! My mum was more depressed than me because her requested items didn't reach her hands. Very valuable stuff because they cannot be found in AUS....

To this date, I still cannot figure out how the ant got into my bag. Look on the bright side, at least it saved me from having to make pineapple tarts in the hot weather. It would be hard to tell if it was the tarts that were being baked or me ;p

p/s: My eldest sister laughed at me for being vain. She said a box would have been sufficient... DOUBLE OUCH!

Happy Chap Goh Mei!!

Wah it has been 12 days since I last updated my blog. Forgive me. It's CNY. Both hands were tied up, with food hiak hiak... Actually, I have a lot of things to share, but there is just too little time! Need some time to sort out my thoughts :)

Today is Chap Goh Mei, the last day of CNY. So sad :( No more reason or excuse to eat non-stop. *sigh* It's back to reality & time to say NO to junk food, again.

People are playing firecrackers and fireworks now. Wah! It's as if CNY is starting all over again! It's like a war zone here. Smoke and 'machine gun' sound everywhere haha... That's CNY, the Kch style. Too bad that Jane isn't here. She loves the sound of CNY. Can imagine Jane running around excitedly with her camera... Miss her...

Mum's back from Perth. She cooks 6 course meal everyday. Tonight, she cooked a big pot of fish bladder soup, half a chicken, half a pak loh duck, pak loh pork, a fried promfret
(is this how u spell? anyway, it's 'chiang yu') and one slice of fried 'Ngo Hu' (fish). Yeah, i guess you must have noticed. They was no veggie. And yes, there were 6 dishes altogether AND for 3 of us. Guess you can imagine how full I'm now *burp* There goes my diet plan. NVM, never have one anyway.

I gotta go walk around a bit now, to help with digestion....

Updated on 23/2/08:
We found a box of firecrackers in the store room. So we joined the fun & played firecrackers.
Took a video. It's quite long. Some may find it boring but definitely not Jane ;p CNY is not complete without playing firecrackers ^^
Sorry that the video is a bit shaky. My right ear hurt because of the loudness. Had to cover it with my shouder while trying to hold the camera with both hands :) Anyway, it's the sound of firecrackers that is important :>

BBQ anyone?

A quick one from me from down-under.

I suppose no one will be interested in reading my blog since it's CNY. But, i just feel like dropping a few lines just to let my friends know that I'm still alive ;p and taking very good care of myself. very well-fed ;p

Today is my 5th day away from Kch. Oh dear, the sun is very big and hot here. So hot that it burns my skin! Even the wind is dry and warm.

Man, i really missed CNY in Kch! Jane and I couldn't stop imagining what we would be doing if we were there! CNY in Perth is a lot quieter. Because no firecrackers mah :( But life isn't so quiet when you have lots of cute nephews and nieces to exhaust you! haha... Will post some fun pictures when i've the chance... We don't have internet access at home. Have to drive 20 mins to my sister's house just to check mail! Now i even miss my crappy streamyx at home... It always gives me trouble but hey, at least i can connect to the world anytime i want! Haha... humans. We only miss something when we don't have it.

gotta go play cards with my nieces now. gotta make some money for my supper later :)

恭喜发财!!

I bet everyone is feeling excited as Chinese New Year is just less than 5 days away from now. It's "Hello to Rat year" in no time.

I know I've said this numerous time, but i just have to say it again ----- TIME FLIES---! I remember talking about my plans and feelings for CNY just not long ago. Wow, it's that time of the year again in a blink of an eye. Hmmm... I really need a time-stopping device or better, I wish I had the power to bend time like Hiro in 'Heroes'! If that is too much to ask, then a Time-Turner [a time-travelling device] used by Hermione in Harry Potter 3 so I could be in two different places at the same time is good enough ;p

Although I won't be celebrating this joyous occasion in Kch, I did not forget to decorate my home with CNY colour - warming red. Now my home looks 喜氣洋洋 with all the CNY deco! Pamelos, mandarin oranges, Chinese sweet cakes? I have them all.

Yesterday, I even went to the wet market before work in my professional attire just to grab some pamelos and Chinese sweet cakes! haha, try to imagine a smartly and tidily dressed lady in a market full of t-shirt, make-upless aunties ;p

I can certainly feel CNY in the air. It's people mountain people sea (crowded) everywhere! I did not plan to buy much but I got influenced by those around me. Yesterday, My colleagues and I went to a wholesaler to shop for CNY tit bits after lunch. That place is full of every tit bits you can imagine! While waiting for them to shop, I stood aside munching roasted nuts they gave as samples [haiya, should have come here for lunch instead ;p hiak hiak]. I am really into nuts lately. I like nuts so much that I think I'm going nuts soon ^^ Hey, come to think of it, it isn't bad being a complete nutty person huh? I think nutty people are generally happier people ;p Okie, let's not side-track ^^ Everyone got packs of stuff and that made me 'itchy handed'. So I also bought some... for my OWN CONSUMPTION hiak hiak hiak...

I'm excited about flying off to reunite with my family [that's what CNY is all about] but at the same time, I am also pretty sad that I won't be able to go CNY visiting in Kch! Just think about the fun and yummy snacks that I'll miss! TnT A close friend knows my love for acar and crackers and has kindly and generously invited me to her house tomorrow to be her pre-CNY visitor. Yayeee... I will be able to taste homemade acar before anyone else!! *dancing around happily* I know all my other friends are nice ppl. They will definitely save me some crackers to go with the Acar, pineapple tarts, cakes and all other mouth-watering tit bits ;p Thank you guys in advance hehe....

Wishing everyone a prosperous years ahead! Gong Xi Fa Cai [& 红包拿来 ;)]!! 万事如意!
