Cake anyone?

May i offer you a .....

BLOODY cake?

Haha, am not being insulting. Besides, it's CNY. We are supposed to be nice to each other :P More importantly, I'm such a kind-hearted person. I don't scold ppl unless they step on my 'invisible tail' :P

We spotted this stall in the night mkt in Taichung. Funny name. Imagine the taokeh (boss) telling his customer 'Here, your BLOODY cake!" and the customer happily pays for the 'insult'. Interesting hey?

I remember having a bloody cake in Shiling night mkt back in year 2000. I saw ppl q-ing up for something that looked like an ice cream, dipped in crushed peanuts. yum... looked tasty.

Being curious, I just had to try
it! so i joined the Q and was happy as a butterfly when i finally got my very own bloody cake! yayeee... one bite into the cake and my face, nose and mouth all shut down. In the cartoon world, my face would be green in colour!

It tasted, well, like
the name says, BLOODY! Bloody disgusting to me! yucks.... that's vampire's food!

May I still interest u with a piece of bloody cake?

Customer's waiting for her bloody cake

BTW, bloody cake is actually pig blood jelly LOL

Still CNY!

Jane and I have been running around town to visit relatvies, colleagues, close friends, long lost friends, overseas friends, mum's friends, friends of friends etc... CNY is the only time we get to catch up with everybody (and eat like nobody's business) without having to give any excuses :P

It rained a lot during CNY. Such lazy and inconvenient weather! We did feel like hibernating at home. It was wet & cold. Such good reason to do nothing! But it just felt so wrong to waste CNY like this so we put on our yellow boots (not true) and went visiting anyway.

What happens when u meet up with friends, lost lost friends, friends of friends... (ya you get the sequence)?? You get the LATEST news on friends' (and other ppl's) lives. To me, that's not the most interesting part of CNY. The really interesting part is that, we get to do this over endless supplies of drinks and tit bits! AND only have to worry abt weight problem when u are ready to face reality. How I wish everyday was CNY!

Like being in the Movies....

It was a dramatic morn last sunday.

I was waiting at the traffic lights
when a police car came from nowhere like a thunder and stopped in the middle of the junction. I thought they were making way for the VIPs but instead, a few policemen in uniforms jumped out from the car, carrying really big guns in their hands and ran towards an oncoming black car.

Then there was shouting everywhere. The next thing i saw, the policemen pointed their long guns at the car while other policemen pulled a few men out from the car.

Everything happened very quickly.

I have no idea what's happening but it's the first time i saw the policemen here in action! Haha... It was quite an excitement at 10 in the morn. Live action movie mannnn... Too bad no Jacky Chan.... That would be 'cool-er'!

Momo 毛毛

Last weekend, I decided to try making my First kuih momo (I called it 毛毛糕 while CC called it Snowball as it melts when touches your tongue).

I got this
very "advanced" recipe from an internationally known cookies expert, CC. I gave some of CC's homemade Momo to my friends in TW. They loved it! So much that they asked if I could courier this to them. I wish I could. But Momo needs to be gently handled. A little shake, they will crumble. So instead of eating Momo, you might end up with Momo powder and had to make drinks with it :P

Anyway, that's how CC gained her international
recognition :)

Then I decided to try making momo with CC's recipe. She generously shared it with me even though it's her trade secret (she makes them for sale in Miri). The trouble is, i'm only pre-schooler in the baking department and her recipe is for ppl who have PhD in baking!

You see, she
listed the ingredients with NO measurement. Although her instructions were clear but not for beginner like me... i don't know how much ingredients to use, how long i should bake the cookies for and at what temperature. So many question marks in my mind.

Then i found out the secret to yummy Momo. That is, to make it
with your heart..... No wonder CC's Momo are delicious coz she makes hers with tender loving care....

I made these 毛毛糕.

Not so bad for a first timer right? :P

Soon, it wil be....

*counting fingers and toes* Woohoo! Chinese New Year is just 18 days away! Yayeeee... That means i will be able
to enjoy my favourite crackers and acar soon! ^^

BUT before i get to do that, I will have to go thru the things i hate
the most. SPRING CLEANING! Urghhh... How I wish i could just wink my nose and everything would be sparkling clean and in order! haha, too much 'Bewitched' series give me wild ideas :P Lucky Jane gets to escape from all the hardship! Poor Me.... :(

Did some cleaning around the house last weekend. EXHAUSTED! I didn't
enjoy the process at all *torturing* but the end result? GREAT and I LOVE it!

We (actually, i sneakily did it when mum was sound asleep)
tossed out a lot of things. Even found a can of Spam (Australian luncheon meat) which had expired in 2006 in the food cabinet! How dangerous is that? haha... Perhaps i should've kept it so it could be passed down from generation to generation like some precious gems! Who knows, it might worth a lot next time and could sold as an antique next time! haha...

Shopping for CNY cookies is the part I love love love coz i get to eat
free samples hehe... it's like an early CNY for me :P Went to shop for CNY tit bits just now. Ate a bit too many nuts *ooopss* Have sore throat now.. but it's ok, i have honey with me. The soreness will be gone in no time! Aren't I prepared?

Welcoming the yr of Tiger soon!

Kidnapped

Tiger is getting bigger and is now at the age where he is curious of things. He now even dares to explore the world beyond the fence. He doesn't stay out long and will return home after sniffing here and there for 5 mins.

The other day, he ran a bit further and didn't return. We didn't worry
at first because we were sure that he would be back for food at meal time. Then we worried coz it was meal time but he was no where to be seen! Mum was esp concerned coz they've spent a lot of time together in the garden. We kept calling out for Tiger but all we got was silence.

Had he run a bit
too far and lost his way? So we went around the neighbourhood looking for him. Still no sign of him. Where he could be...?? I tried to console mum and at the same time wondered if we would ever see Tiger again. Although he is a naughty dog and gives me shits everyday, I still wished he would come home.

Mum decided to give it a last try after 1 hour of searching. And then
she heard familiar barking. Turns out, Tiger got kidnapped or should i say, dognapped by our neighbour! Tiger was behind bars when mum found him and the old man, upon seeing my mum and noisy Tiger, released him. Yup, it was a tearful reunion.

Tiger looks smart with his new collar eh?
